Considering an endemic (NYT)
     
     On February 1st, Denmark became the first European Union country to lift most coronavirus restrictions, followed by other European countries shortly after.  Many are beginning to consider the coronavirus as a permanent fixture in our everyday lives and calling for a change in how we approach the virus.  Health experts have determined that the most recent variant, omicron, while highly contagious, causes lower rates of severe disease.  With this in mind, many experts are now urging for an acceptance that the virus is here to stay, much like the seasonal flu.  To consider Covid-19 an endemic does not, however, mean that it is not still dangerous.  Endemic malaria, for example, kills hundreds of thousands of people every year.  In the U.S., where vaccination rates are lower than in most European countries, some experts believe switching our approach is premature as case numbers and hospitalizations still remain high.

Retired Airbus to become hotel in Toulouse (The Points Guy)

     A former Airbus engineer plans to turn a retired A380 aircraft into a hotel in France, near the Toulouse airport.  The 31-room hotel is expected to open in 2024 with rooms expected to go for around $350 a night and will also have a 60-seat restaurant attached to the aircraft.
